David E. Balthaser, born July 23, 1941, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, David lived a life defined by warmth, curiosity, and an easy sense of humor.
Born in Adrian, Michigan, he was the only child of Kenneth and Mary Jane Balthaser, both of whom preceded him in death.
David is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 45 years, Jill Balthaser; his daughter Cristina King and her husband Brian; and his treasured grandsons, Jack and Benjamin. He is also survived by his stepson Todd Headrick and his wife Joan.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast and avid tennis player, David found joy both on the tennis court and in the air, and in sharing those passions with others. As a dedicated member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), he proudly supported the Young Eagles Program, helping introduce young people to the wonder of flight.
David belonged to a generation that believed in knowing people by name, including his waiter and in striking up conversations with strangers, rarely staying strangers for long. He was known for his unmistakable style, often in a pink shirt, his love of Italian food, a cold Presidente, and for keeping York Peppermint Patties in the freezer at all times.
He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and his ability to make everyday moments feel special. Among his greatest joys were his grandsons, Jack and Benjamin, with whom he shared stories, laughter, and his enthusiasm for life.
The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date to honor and remember him.
Blue skies and tailwinds ahead of you. Godspeed, Grandpa.
