David Joseph Belbusti, 65, of West Haven, Connecticut, passed away on January 13, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on February 27, 1960, in New Haven, David spent his life rooted in the community that shaped him and that he so deeply cherished.
David was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Tracy and a proud father to Shelley Green, Stephenie Lucas, Mark (Jennifer) Lucas, David Williams, Jaime Lucas, and Maggie (Alejo) Brizuela. His greatest joy came from being "Papa" to his grandchildren—Kolbe Lucas, Kaleb Lucas, Layla Lucas, Liliana Brizuela, Emilia Brizuela, Tyler Lucas, Calleigh Green, and Dale Green—each of whom held a special place in his heart. His love for them was boundless and unwavering; they were truly the lights of his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Edna Belbusti and his grandparents Francesca and Nazzereo Belbusti.
Known for his generous spirit and kind heart, Dave was someone you could always count on. Whether it was lending a hand to a neighbor or offering support to a friend in need, he lived by example—quietly but powerfully demonstrating what it meant to care for others. He had an innate ability to connect with people of all ages but had a particular fondness for children. In any gathering, Dave could be found playing with the kids or cradling the youngest baby in the room with a smile on his face.
Dave's hands were rarely still. He was always building something—whether it made sense or not—and found joy in creating with whatever materials were at hand. His projects may not have always followed blueprints or logic, but they were built with love and enthusiasm that made them uniquely his own.
