It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Edward Benoit, 89, of East Hartford, CT, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 22, 2025.
David was born on July 24, 1936, in Burlington, VT, to the late Joseph and Bernadette (Lemieux) Benoit. He moved to Connecticut in 1959, and shortly after, met the love of his life, Bernadette Duganier, on a blind date. They married in 1965 and were blessed with two daughters.
Before beginning his long career as a truck driver for Fordham Distributors, David held several jobs that helped shape his strong work ethic. He spent 23 years with Fordham before retiring in 1998.
David enjoyed car racing, football, baseball, and was a devoted UConn Huskies basketball fan. He also loved to read and could often be found with a book in hand. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler who proudly won several league championships. In his later years, he especially looked forward to gathering with his weekly coffee group, a tradition that brought him laughter, friendship, and comfort.
David was honored to have served as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2533.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bernadette (Duganier) Benoit; his daughter Lisa and son-in-law George Barton; his daughter Theresa and son-in-law Bob Twombly; his brother Jean Benoit; his brother Steven and sister-in-law Sharon Benoit; his sister Marianne and brother-in-law J. Daniel Way Jr.; as well as many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Church in Glastonbury, CT. A private burial will follow in Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in David's memory.
David will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
