David Lars Chamberlain, beloved husband, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on February 3, 2026, at Sutter Health Solano Hospital, Vallejo, California, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was seventy-four years old.
Born on September 20, 1951, in Oakland, California, David grew up with a deep sense of curiosity about the world and an eagerness to explore it. An early affinity for reading led to a lifelong passion right up to his passing. That curiosity guided him throughout his life, shaping a career, a marriage, and countless friendships that reflected his open heart and inquisitive mind.
David earned his bachelor's degree in Linguistics and East Asian Languages from Indiana University in 1972, a field of study that perfectly captured his fascination with language, culture, and communication. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he served with distinction for twenty years as a Cryptologist, ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His time in the Navy took him around the globe, where he developed a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and the bonds formed through shared purpose and service.
Following his retirement from the Navy in 1993, David transitioned into the technology sector, where he built an impressive and varied career. Over the years, he held several key leadership roles, including Chief Technology Officer, interim CIO, Vice President of Enterprise Architecture, and Executive Consultant. Those who worked with him remember his calm leadership, endless patience, and ability to see both the big picture and the smallest detail. His thoughtful approach to problem-solving and his willingness to mentor others made him a trusted colleague and friend.
In 1998, David met and then married the love of his life, David Brent Roundsley. Together, they built a partnership grounded in love, mutual respect, laughter, and a shared spirit of adventure. Their twenty-eight years together were filled with music, travel, books, and the joy of discovering new places and ideas. Whether exploring a faraway country or reading side by side quietly, they found in each other a deep and sustaining companionship. David and David were two misfits who fit perfectly together.
David's defining traits were his kindness, generosity, intellectual curiosity, and fearlessness. He approached life with a playful sense of humor and an eagerness to learn something new every day. His friends and family often said that he could talk to anyone about anything and that he listened with genuine interest. His compassion extended beyond his immediate circle through his support of numerous charities, reflecting his lifelong belief in giving back to the community that had given him so much.
David is survived by his husband, David Brent Roundsley, his nephew, Robert Chamberlain, and his cousin, Suzanne Isola. He will also be remembered by a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and shipmates who were touched by his warmth and wisdom.
David's life was one of curiosity, courage, and kindness, and the world is a better place for having known him.
