David Willie Dilbeck, known affectionately as Big D to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away at his residence in Monroe, Georgia on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1957, he spent the majority of his life in Georgia, but also lived for a short time in Vero Beach, Florida, where his father was a foreman at an orange grove. Upon graduating from Campbell High School in 1975, David also lived briefly with his parents in Murphy, North Carolina. Prior to his declining health, he worked as a real estate appraiser for Barrow County.

David had many interests, including music and cars. He loved The Beatles, but was a dyed-in-the-wool KISS fan. He liked other genres of music as well, and in the 1970s and 1980s, enjoyed attending concerts of various bands.

He also enjoyed working with his hands. By his own ingenuity, creativity, and a touch of love, he was a great handyman who—among other things—built magical playhouses and swing-sets for his stepchildren, whom he loved and cared for as his own. The core memories made in these places will forever rank up there with the (in)famous go-cart and all of the shenanigans involved with that thing!

David also had a talent for photography and writing, which aided him greatly in his founding and contributions to Georgiadragracing.com, with which he was involved until later health issues placed limits on his ability to do so.

He is predeceased by his parents, Willie and Mattie Lee Dilbeck; his brother, John Dilbeck; and his beloved wife, Vicki Dilbeck, to whom he was married for forty years.

Surviving are his stepchildren: Trevor (Nancy) Pattillo, Talia (Jack) Crane, and Sammy Pattillo; grandchildren: Dylan Simpson, Shyan (George) Helmer, Jaydon Crane (Wes Green), Hannah Pattillo, and Sawyer Pattillo; and great-grandchildren: Rylen Simpson, Rainee Green, and Levon Helmer; a niece and cousin; and many friends, particularly those involved in the 1970s Georgia drag racing scene.

David was an avid reader and a great listener, and he will be missed by many. A service in his honor will be held at a later date.

John 14:1-3:

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
