David LaHaise Jr of Vero Beach, Florida passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 53 after defying all odds with his second brain tumor diagnosis.
Born on September 26, 1972 in Newton, Massachusetts, David’s life was marked by family, friends, and a deep love of the outdoors. He grew up in Waltham, MA and Sudbury, MA where he graduated from Carrol High School (then part of Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School) and was an active member of the track and basketball teams.
Life wasn’t always easy for David. He faced many health challenges but through it all, he remained the kind of person who could light up a room with his smile and positivity. David’s initial battle with brain cancer, at the age of 4 years old, was the first of many challenges he would face with courage, hope and determination. After miraculously surviving that diagnosis, he was tragically diagnosed with a glioblastoma at the age of 52.
Professionally, he had a fulfilling career with UPS as a driver for many years before transitioning to Staples Inc in their retail stores and later to the corporate offices as a compliance analyst. David loved being outdoors and enjoyed hikes in the MA state parks or camping under the stars. Somehow, he always found ways to give back to others as well. Whether volunteering for Meals On Wheels, helping out a neighbor, or offering a friendly word, he made things easier for those around him. David was a respected and trusted colleague and friend who was fiercely loyal, honest and loved by everyone.
In recent years, David’s favorite weekly activity was dinner and a movie or golf with his youngest brother, Brian. He also enjoyed texting his siblings to find out the latest happenings in New England and talk about the warm Florida sunshine. He prepared year round for his favorite holiday, Halloween, to ensure that every trick or treater received a homemade paracord bracelet. A Massachusetts guy at heart, there was never a Dunkin iced coffee (extra, extra) he could refuse!
David loved to remind the seven of his younger siblings that he was the oldest and he took that role very seriously. He was the first one to arrive at any party, the first to lend a hand and the last to leave. He will be deeply missed.
David will be remembered for his never ending resilience, warm smile, and loud sneezes. His passing leaves a break in the family chain and broken hearts of family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his faithful and loving parents Dave and Linda LaHaise, his seven siblings: Nicole Shuckerow (Jeffrey Borges), Eric LaHaise (John Strausberg), Stephanie DeStefano (Eric), Jessica LaHaise (Jim Patrikis), Kevin LaHaise (Cameron), Brian LaHaise, and Courtney LaHaise; his seven nieces and nephews: Sam, Emerson and Hannah Shuckerow, Hadley and Jonathan DeStefano and Audrey and Harrison LaHaise, as well as his devoted high school best friend, Matt Cavanaugh. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Albert and Mary Juppe (Cammisaro) and Arthur and Helen LaHaise.
A private memorial service in honor of David’s life will be held at a later date when he can finally come home to Sudbury, MA.
