David M. Yerka, 77, of Greenfield, MA passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025 at BayState Franklin Medical Center.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Michael F. and Helen A. (Piepszak) Yerka. He grew up in Douglas, MA, graduated from Douglas Memorial High School in 1966, and attended University of Mass Amherst.
He leaves his son Joshua D. Yerka, his former wife Lesha Prehl Yerka, who was his health care advocate and dedicated caregiver later in life, a sister Elizabeth and her husband Alan Bourgeois, nephew and godson Neil Bourgeois and wife Vanise and their children, former sister-in-law Denise Favorat and her children and former brother-in-law William Prehl and wife Kory and their children.
David was a kind, gentle man who lived a quiet life. He loved his son and all his family dearly. He had a quirky sense of humor that never left him. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working with computers. For many years he ran a computer repair business and also set up systems for small businesses.
His godson remembers him as one of the best uncles a kid could have—patient, thoughtful, always ready for an adventure and having the humility and childlike generosity to step into a child's world and make it better.
Per David's wishes there will be no services.
