David Douglas McDonald, 87, of Magalia, California, passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2026.
Born in Dearborn, Michigan, to Janice Bacon McDonald and Robert McDonald. David grew up with a curiosity and drive that would shape his entire life. After moving to California and graduating from Carlmont High School in Belmont, California, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, reflecting his love of country and sense of duty.
David was a true entrepreneur at heart, founding and running multiple businesses over his lifetime. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a man of many passions. He loved sailing, reading, playing the piano, and held a deep affection for all things Scottish. His love for Scotland and travel took him on many journeys to Europe and beyond. His favorite being his trips to Scotland to hike the Highland trail, and he delighted in savoring a fine single malt scotch along the way.
A loyal friend and dedicated community member, David was an active member of the Elks Club and the Masons. He found purpose in friendship, service, and shared traditions with his brotherhood.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Brelsford McDonald, two children, Julie Wynn and Grace McDonald, his son-in-law Donald Wynn; and grandchildren, Matthew Wynn and Emma McDonald. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Bret McDonald, his parents and his sister Jeannie Beers.
David's life was marked by courage, curiosity, and a love for the world around him. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his adventurous spirit, his kindness, and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
