David Edgar Melin, age 86, a resident of Lisle, IL since 1979, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 22, 1939 in Streator, IL, the only son of Rueben and Virginia Melin.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Selma Joyce Melin (nee Hodge); his loving children, Mindy (the late Patrick) Hofstetter, Mark (Diann) Melin, and Jennifer (Jerry) Spreitzer; his cherished grandchildren, Cory, Danielle, Lexy, Emerson, and Skyler.
David was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and integrity. His time in the military shaped his strong character, deep sense of duty, and lifelong patriotism. After completing his service, David continued to pursue excellence in his education, earning his bachelor's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, an accomplishment he cherished and often spoke of with pride.
Armed with determination and a keen technical mind, David embarked on what would become a fulfilling and distinguished career with Standard Oil Company. Over the course of 35 years, he rose through the ranks through hard work, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to his colleagues and the company's mission. He retired from Amoco after more than three decades of dedicated service, grateful for the many friendships and professional experiences he gained along the way.
Outside of work, David's passions were as vibrant as his personality. A lifelong car enthusiast, he appreciated automobiles of all makes and models, but his heart belonged to Corvettes. As a longtime member of his Corvette club, he formed lasting friendships and proudly owned several models throughout his life.
David will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generous spirit. His legacy of love, loyalty, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. We have faith that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that he is resting in peace.
Private Family services will be held. Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville, was entrusted with arrangements.
