As a kid growing up, Dave eagerly learned about all things farming and became a good problem solver. He was both creative and pragmatic. He could dream of big things, and he could build or fix just about anything. Dave demonstrated an artistic talent at a very young age. One of his early hobbies was to build model cars and tractors, which he painted and finished with an artistic flair. This early interest would grow into a passion that he pursued throughout his life.
Dave graduated North Marion High School in 1969. His career pursuits involved farming, truck driving and mechanics. He enjoyed working for local farmers and for Ernst Hardware in St. Paul. He lightened the load of hard work with his ever-present sense of humor. In 1990, Dave realized his dream of becoming a business owner when he built his own shop on Wiseacre Lane and started Wiseacre Wizards, refurbishing and painting tractors and vehicles. Each project was an opportunity to turn a piece of equipment into a work of art. He entered his creations in local parades and won many awards.
Dave loved being outdoors, tinkering and hanging out with his dogs. He enjoyed annual hunting trips with his buddies. He developed an affinity for shooting pool and became a formidable competitor, winning local tournaments. Dave developed many strong friendships that enriched his life. He was kind and generous to everyone, even when they didn't return the favor.
Dave contracted Parkinson's disease about 15 years ago. He faced his health challenges with determination and a sense of humor. When his illness became too complex to manage on his own, he moved to Countryside Living in Canby to receive care the last few years of his life. The family would like to give thanks to his caregivers for lovingly supporting him, as well as to his many friends who took him on outings to visit his home or to enjoy car shows and other events.
Donations commemorating Dave can be made to the Oregon Humane Society or to Zoar Lutheran Church.
