David Michael Short, 54, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 12, 2026, in the same city where he was born on March 15, 1971. A loving father, son, brother and craftsman, David will be remembered for his warm heart, goofy charm, and unwavering love that he felt for his family.
From a young age, David displayed exceptional skill in carpentry, a passion that grew into both his livelihood and his art. He was a master carpenter known for his precision, creativity, and pride in the homes he built and projects he completed. He never missed the chance to show off his signature hammer trick or point out one of his projects, each proudly carrying a piece of his spirit and exceptional talent. His craftsmanship can be seen in countless homes across his community, each one a quiet testament to his precision and pride in his work.
What truly made David special, however, was his character. Silly, tender-hearted, and forever young at heart; he could always be counted on for a warm hug, an awkward dance, or a playful joke. He never missed the chance to say "I love you". His love for animals and his boundless compassion spoke of a soul deeply connected to God's creation.
David's greatest achievements were undoubtedly his three beloved daughters—Kimberly Twitty, Amanda Pratt, and Jennifer Short—each of whom was the center of his world. David was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Stevens. He is also survived by his father, Michael Short, the mother of his children, Jessica Perri, his grandchildren Shay Twitty and Brooks Hall; his "Tober-dog", his sisters Amy Hill and Lisa Demint, and his niece and nephews: Jasmine Stringfield, Justin Hill, Jordan Chester, and Austin & Andrew Demint.
David lived his faith quietly but firmly, having accepted God as his savior and trusting in the promise of eternal peace he so richly deserves. Glory be to God for giving the gift of Mercy to David.
John 14:1-3
"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
A private gathering among his immediate family will be held to lay his remains to rest. His family encourages you to share any memories or photos in celebration of his precious life which will serve as great comfort during this very unfortunate time.
