DAVID LAWRENCE WARR, a man whose hands were equally skilled in the precision of engineering and the craft of home renovation, and whose heart was devoted to his community and family, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025 in his home state of Maryland.

Born on October 26, 1958, in Washington D.C., David was the fourth child of Jesse James Warr Jr. and Lucy Brown Warr. He was educated in Maryland Public Schools, attending Beaver Heights Elementary, Mary McLeod Bethune Junior High, and Fairmont Heights High School. In 1976, his journey took him to North Carolina, where he became an Aggie at North Carolina A&T State University, earning his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During his junior year, he gained valuable experience co-oping with IBM in upstate New York, which secured him a permanent position upon graduation. His time with IBM was marked by a unique opportunity that afforded him the chance to work on an extended project in Nice, France.

While laying the foundation for his professional life, David also began his family. He was married to Deanna from March 1982 to July 1986, and their union blessed them with their daughter, Teresa.

He then built a significant portion of his career with the company, serving with IBM for 12 years before their Federal Division was sold to Loral in 1994, a transition that brought him back to his home state of Maryland. While he held several more positions in corporate America, David ultimately followed a deeper, entrepreneurial calling: his passion for home improvement. He channeled his precision and problem-solving skills from engineering into mastering the trades, taking various courses to learn all aspects
of renovation. This led him to become a licensed Maryland Home Improvement Specialist, establishing his own successful business, Top Styles. This expertise provided the foundation for a growing real estate portfolio he built and managed between Maryland and North Carolina.

David was a man of unwavering faith and deep commitment to his community. He grew up nurturing his relationship with God at The Episcopal Church of the Atonement, where he remained active throughout his life. He was a man of strong faith, dedicated to the teachings of Jesus and broadly professing his worship of Him. He loved studying the Bible, teaching its lessons, and sharing Biblical wisdom with others. His favorite scriptures were Psalms 23 and Romans 8. He also loved the Gospels and Letters of Paul. His service to the church included many positions, such as Acolyte, Bible Study teacher, the Senior Choir, Junior Warden, the Vestry, and The Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He also volunteered with the Atonement Food Pantry.

His dedication to mentorship extended to Prince George's County Public Schools, where he volunteered as a tutor and counsel for students, often speaking during Career Days and Recognition ceremonies. As a dedicated advocate for justice, he proudly participated in the Washington D.C. rally and march to push for a national Martin Luther King Day. He also served his family and community as Treasurer for the Committee to Re-elect Lucy B. Warr. His commitment to service also manifested through his work as a board member of Amandla Production, an organization that created quality entertainment as an empowering vehicle to assist community organizations.

A true sportsman, David loved the game of basketball, playing for his junior varsity and varsity teams in high school. His competitive spirit continued in college intramural leagues, where he helped his NC A&T team capture the Intramural Championship. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing tennis, volleyball, and occasionally tried his hand at golf. Beyond sports, he found relaxation in chess, backgammon, bike riding, parks and nature, and loved animals. He had a strong affinity for the arts, often composing poetry and savoring the experience of plays, concerts, museums, and festivals.

David leaves behind a cherished legacy. He is survived by his loving daughter, Teresa; his siblings, Jesse III, Marilynn (Reginald, Sr.), Richard (Linda), and Patricia (Marc); and a large, loving extended family including many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, and friends.

He is also survived by his beloved dog, Coconut.
