David Anthony Wiesner, 66, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026 following a battle with colon cancer.
Born in Caledonia, Minnesota on December 19, 1959 to Edward and Louise (Koukal) Wiesner, David graduated from St. Cloud Apollo High School in 1978 and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1985. David was most recently employed by Medtronic assembling medical devices and previously enjoyed his time working at American Hardware Mutual Insurance Group.
David was a kind and gentle soul who had a fondness for cats. He was a member of the Sierra Club, and had an appreciation for the environment and nature, which was shown through his hobbies of growing his own vegetables and fishing with the family. David also has good memories of deer hunting with his step-brother Tom. Even when he couldn't be outside, he found ways to bring nature in, like watching our MN state bird via the loon cams. While he might have seemed reserved upon first acquaintance, he did enjoy a good practical joke every now and again (ask his sister Diane about the pickles).
He is survived by siblings, Vickie Mersy of Eden Prairie, MN, Diane Wiesner of Riverview, FL, step-brother Tom (Joan) Smith of St. Cloud, MN, and step-sisters Sue (Mike) Iten of St. Cloud, MN, and Teresa Asleson of Helena, MT; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Delores Wiesner; sister Cindy Wiesner and step-siblings Carol Oltz, David Smith and Steve Smith.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with a celebration of life taking place at a later date (details to be provided as they become available). In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate in David's name, please consider causes like the Sierra Club Foundation and CancerCare.
