With profound love and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we share the passing of Deborah Ann Davison, age 70, who left this world peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and in the compassionate care of Halifax Hospice, following a difficult two-month hospitalization.
Deborah was born on August 2, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Dr. Samuel Matheny and Rose Matheny. She later moved with her parents to Ormond Beach, Florida, where she would plant deep roots and create a life defined by love, devotion, and service to others.
A proud graduate of Seabreeze High School, Class of 1974, Deborah began her college journey at Columbia College in 1976 before transferring to the University of South Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1978. During her time there, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, forming lifelong friendships grounded in loyalty and shared joy.
On June 11, 1983, she married the love of her life, Jeffrey Davison. Their marriage was a true partnership — filled with laughter, strength, and unwavering support. When Jeff suffered a massive stroke in 2003, Deborah became his devoted caregiver, standing faithfully by his side and never leaving him. She cared for him with extraordinary patience, dignity, and love, embodying the very vows she had made decades earlier. Through long days and difficult nights, her commitment never wavered. Her devotion during those years was a powerful reflection of her strength, loyalty, and selflessness.
Together they created a home overflowing with warmth and raised their daughters, Samantha Davison and Tara Breen, who were the center of Deborah’s world. Her family meant everything to her. She would move mountains to ensure they were cared for, protected, and encouraged in every possible way. Her love was fierce, steady, and unconditional — a constant source of comfort and strength.
Deborah’s heart extended far beyond her own home. For 27 years (1985–2013), she devoted herself to the children and families of Temple Beth-El School as a beloved preschool teacher. Teaching was never just a job to her — it was her calling. She greeted every child with patience, gentleness, and a sincere belief in their potential. She celebrated their milestones, comforted their fears, and nurtured their curiosity. Generations of families remain grateful for the kindness, guidance, and confidence she instilled in their children. Her classroom was a place of safety, encouragement, and joy.
Deborah lived with a quiet generosity that touched everyone around her. She was thoughtful, selfless, and endlessly compassionate — the kind of person who remembered birthdays, checked in when someone was struggling, and offered help before being asked. Her warmth made people feel seen and valued. Her smile made people feel at ease. Her presence made life better.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jeffrey Davison; her mother, Rose Matheny; and her father, Dr. Samuel Matheny. She is survived by her brother, Jim Matheny, and his wife, Kathy Matheny; her daughters, Samantha Davison and Tara Breen, and Tara’s husband, Ross Muliech; and countless friends, extended family members, former students, and colleagues who carry her love with them.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Tomoka United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Deborah’s memory to the American Stroke Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, or The Ehlers-Danlos Society.
Deborah’s life was a gift — to her family, to her students, and to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she will be deeply missed, her kindness, devotion, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
