Deborah Sellars

Deborah Lynn "Polliwog" Sellars (Jobe), born on February 21, 1968, in San Jose, California, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia. She was 57 years old.

Born the fourth of six children to Abraham and Mary-Catherine Jobe, Deborah entered the world early and small—just four pounds—but with a spirit that proved unshakable from the very beginning. Her mother lovingly recalled carrying her tiny daughter close in her pocket to keep her warm. Nicknamed "Polliwog" by her father, Deborah was born legally deaf, yet she faced every challenge with fierce determination and grace.

Deborah's life was marked by resilience and love. She navigated a world not built for silence with courage and clarity, forging deep connections and nurturing a family rooted in care and togetherness. She married Lawrence Sellars, with whom she shared 27 years of marriage. Together they raised three children: Jeffrey Sellars, Justin Bakker, and Elaura Sellars. Deborah homeschooled her children, ensuring they were surrounded by love and safety during their formative years.

In her early fifties, after raising her family, Deborah began a new chapter as a nurse—a testament to her enduring compassion and commitment to helping others. Despite living with Lupus since her twenties, she poured herself into caring for patients with the same devotion she gave to her loved ones. Her gentle humor and patient heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

In December of 2025, Deborah was diagnosed with late-stage cancer that had already spread to major organs. From that moment forward, the bond among the Jobe sisters became a powerful force of love and support. Melonie Gillis, Theresa Blanco, Denise Shiner, Catherine Cobb, and Susan Willis rallied around their sister without hesitation—offering constant care and presence through every moment of her final journey.

Deborah's final days were filled with visits from family and friends who came to share stories, sing songs, read scripture, and hold sacred space for memories both joyful and tender. She departed this life surrounded by love—her mother's voice in her ears, Ravel's Boléro playing softly in the background, prayers whispered by those dearest to her.

She is survived by her devoted husband Lawrence Sellars; her beloved children Jeffrey Sellars, Justin Bakker, and Elaura Sellars; three cherished grandchildren; her mother Mary-Catherine Jobe; and her five sisters who stood beside her until the end.

Deborah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, niece, granddaughter, and friend. Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her—a loss that words cannot fully express.

As Revelation 21:4 (NKJV) reminds us: "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
