Debra Joy Hart-Perez, 67, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Ocala, Florida, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 15, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, Debra was the cherished daughter of Beverly Hart. She grew up with her brothers, Steve, Mark, and Scott Hart, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. Known affectionately as Debbie she carried a deep love for animals and an unwavering dedication to her passions throughout her life.
Debbie spent many years as a professional horsewoman in the Thoroughbred racing industry. Her exceptional horsemanship, tireless work ethic, and loving nature earned her widespread respect among colleagues across the country. Her career reflected not only her skill but also her connection to the animals she cared for so deeply. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Debbie’s home was always filled with the warmth of animals she loved—dogs, barn cats, chickens, pigs, and even a goat named Boris were among the many creatures who found sanctuary in her care.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Tony Perez; her beloved son, James Holub; her mother, Beverly Hart; and her brothers, Mark Hart and Scott Hart. Debbie’s family was at the heart of everything she did. Her strength and generous spirit left an indelible mark on their lives and on all who knew her.
Debbie left an indelible mark on the lives of many. She will be remembered for the fierce love she had for both her family and animals. Her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and an enduring spirit that touched countless lives.
