Debra "Debbie" Hassard, nee Carthy, of Boerne, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her devoted family on April 6, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on November 28, 1966, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, Debbie was the beloved daughter of Mary Margie and the late Medric Carthy Jr. and a cherished member of a large, loving family.
Debbie is survived by her husband and best friend of 41 years, William "Bill" Hassard Jr., with whom she shared a life filled with love and adventure. Together, they enjoyed traveling to new places and creating lasting memories. She was a proud and nurturing mother to her daughters Rachel Hassard, Jessica (William) Taylor, and her son Craig (Shannen) Hassard. Her grandchildren were the light of her life - Allie Taylor, Kaiden Taylor, Charleigh Hassard, and Willow Hassard, and her heart was full with the recent addition of her first great-grandson, Damian Fox. Debbie valued every moment spent with them, whether in-person or through video chats that bridged the miles. She also leaves behind her three beloved fur babies - Ava, Bandit, and Coco.
She is also survived by her mother, Mary Margie Carthy and six siblings: Robert Carthy, James (Sharon) Carthy, Daniel (Rebecca) Carthy, Michelle (Dan) Cohen, Diane (Jeff Struckhoff) Diamond, and Brad (Chelsea) Carthy. Her extended family includes father-in-law William Hassard Sr.; brothers-in-law John Hassard and Jim Hassard; sisters-in-law Tanya (Chris) Stump and Janet Carthy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her warmth and kindness.
A dedicated employee for 25 years at Walmart, Debbie exemplified hard work and commitment throughout her career. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in baking with and for her loved ones, always whipping up a Pineapple Upside Down cake for any occasion. Debbie also enjoyed swimming in her pool and crocheting beautiful blankets that will be treasured for generations. Her love for family and countless friends was immense, illustrated in the time she spent cultivating deep relationships with those closest to her.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Medric Carthy Jr.; sister, Doris Trumpeter; brother, Larry Carthy; mother-in-law, Lucille Hassard; brother-in-law, Chyenne Spears; paternal grandparents, Medric Sr. and Sophia Carthy; maternal grandparents, Harris Thompson and Bill and Marguerite Gordon; and her dear canine companions, Annie and Baron.
Debbie’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and selflessness. She touched innumerable lives with her kind spirit and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. May her memory bring comfort and warmth to all who knew her.
A celebration to honor Debbie's life will be held at the American Legion Post 137 at 109 N Penn St in O’Fallon, Illinois on Saturday, April 18, 2026 beginning at 12pm. Luncheon to follow.
