Debra L. (VanHoute) Maynard, 68, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.
Born in Marion, New York, Debra lived in several places throughout her life before finding her forever home in Mentor, Ohio. Her adventurous spirit took her on journeys across the United States— from Alaska and Hawaii to the coast of Maine. Debra had a deep fascination with wildlife, especially owls, a symbol of wisdom and strength, which mirrored her own character.
She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Marisa, and a cherished grandmother to her grandsons, Silas and Wesley. From the moment her grandsons arrived, Deb was their biggest fan. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she was a constant presence in their lives.
Debra shared an inseparable bond with the love of her life, her husband John. They were rarely apart and shared countless adventures, from traveling across the country to enjoying weekly breakfast dates together.
Debra bravely battled stage 4 cancer for over 11 years. Despite her own health challenges, she was a dedicated caregiver for her mother, Sue, for several years. Watching her grandsons grow and thrive was a powerful motivator in her fight.
She is survived by husband, John, daughter, Marisa Saber (Tad Baria), grandsons Silas and Wesley Baria, brother David (Diane) Stresing, sister Terri (Jeff) Spencer, and adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Suzanna Stresing, and her father, Donald VanHoute.
Debra will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. Her spirit, love, and courage will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A memorial service and burial will be held on May 2, 2026 with immediate family.
