Dennis Michael Christafferson

Dennis Michael Christafferson passed away on February 19, 2026, in Bloomington, Indiana after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in 1946 in Solon, Ohio, Dennis lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, quiet generosity, and a warmth that touched all who knew him.

Dennis graduated from Solon High School in 1964 and went on to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana, where he earned his bachelor's degree in history in 1968.
He began his professional career as assistant Vice President/controller at Twinsburg bank in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he demonstrated the sharp mind and steady diligence that defined his character.
Drawn by a deeper calling, Dennis returned to academia and earned a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He later continued his scholarly pursuits at Indiana University, where he worked toward a doctoral degree in Native American studies, a subject that reflected a profound respect for diverse spiritual traditions. He continued working as project manager at the Indiana University American Indian Studies Research Institute.

Dennis was remembered for his remarkable intelligence and dry wit, qualities that endeared him to friends and colleagues alike. A lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, he often joined fellow "Browns Backers" as they were affectionately known, at local bar in Bloomington, cheering on his beloved team.
He was an avid reader, loved music, and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

For many years, Dennis volunteered with Meals on Wheels, finding great joy in delivering meals to members of the community.

Dennis lived a life guided by service, friendship, and an unending pursuit of knowledge. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and family members, all of whom were blessed to have known him.

He is survived by four sisters, and two brothers, Kathy Shepherd of Euclid Ohio, Patty Bates (Howard) of Burton, Ohio, Sandy Christafferson of Chicago, Illinois, Thomas Christafferson, (Lauren Simak) of Burton, Ohio, Jeff Christafferson (Sue) of Sparta, Michigan, Carol Osborne of Ocala, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Elaine.

Donations in Dennis's name can be made to Bloomington Meals on Wheels, or the Hoosier Hills food bank of Bloomington, Indiana.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
