In Loving Memory of
Dennis Ray Fruits
February 21, 1955 - October 16, 2023
Age 68 - Cape Coral, Florida
Dennis Ray Fruits, a man whose laughter was contagious and whose spirit was impossible to forget, passed away on October 16, 2023, at the age of 68, in Cape Coral, Florida. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend — a man who left a warm impression on everyone he met.
EARLY LIFE
Dennis was born on February 21, 1955, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, where he grew up and put down his earliest roots. He attended Shawnee Mission East High School, graduating as part of the community that shaped him into the hardworking, personable man he would become.
CAREER
Dennis built his life's work with his hands. He was a skilled automotive upholsterer — a craftsman who learned his trade working his way through shops before eventually striking out on his own as a self-employed business owner. His work was a source of pride, and his eye for detail and craftsmanship earned him the respect of those in his trade.
LIFE IN FLORIDA
In 2012, Dennis made his home in Cape Coral, Florida, embracing the sunshine and the open road that the Sunshine State had to offer. One of his greatest pleasures was riding his 1989 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail — a machine he loved and rode everywhere. He made the iconic run from Florida all the way down to Key West, nearly reaching the southernmost point of the United States, with the kind of easy confidence that defined him.
THE MAN HE WAS
Ask anyone who knew Dennis, and they'll tell you the same thing: everybody liked him. He had a natural humor that drew people in and a way of making those around him feel at ease. His laugh was genuine, his personality magnetic, and his friendship something people counted themselves lucky to have.
FAMILY
Dennis was preceded in death by his first wife and cherished companion, Beverly Diane Fruits; his beloved brother, Douglas; his father, Kenneth Fruits; and his mother, Roberta Fruits.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Diane Fruits; his children, Joseph, Dustin, and Breanne; and his grandchildren, Mikayla and Chase, who will carry his humor, his warmth, and his love of life forward.
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS
In keeping with the spirit of a man who loved the open water as much as the open road, Dennis's ashes were spread in the ocean at Matlacha, Florida — a fitting farewell for someone who lived life on his own terms.
"He rode hard, laughed loud, and loved well."
Dennis Ray Fruits will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
