Dennis Jay Gelbaum, 72, passed away on March 26, 2026, at home in Frisco, Texas after a long, valiant battle with congestive heart failure. Born on March 31, 1953, in the Bronx, New York, Dennis lived a life defined by creativity, humor, and an unwavering drive to bring his ideas to life.
Dennis grew up in the Bronx and attended D.W. Clinton High School before continuing his education at American University. His sharp mind and boundless imagination led him to a remarkable career as an award-winning creative director, producer, writer, brand creator, and inventor. Dennis had a unique ability to turn concepts into reality; if he could conceive of something, he found a way to execute it with precision and speed. Never one to procrastinate or shy away from challenges, he approached every situation—whether engaging with celebrities or intellectuals—with confidence and ease.
Dennis’ creativity extended far beyond his professional endeavors. At home, he was known for his inventive spirit and quick wit. Whether it was playing racquetball or ping pong with his wife or friends, trying to dominate at Scrabble or any word game, or tossing pizza dough in the kitchen during one of his “creative cooking” experiments (which often came with a warning not to ask too many questions), Dennis brought energy and humor to everything he did. He also enjoyed cherished time spent interacting with his many in-laws, who loved him dearly, and good friends.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Evans Gelbaum; sons Jeremy Gelbaum (Brenna) and Zachary Gelbaum (Sarah); grandchildren Owen, Madison, Kaylynn, and Logan; sister Sharon Gelbaum Dolinsky (Larry) and nephews Josh and Adam. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Harold Gelbaum and Ruth Flender Gelbaum Tobak.
Those who knew Dennis will remember him as someone who never let boredom linger—he was always moving on to the next creative idea or project. His quick comebacks, sense of humor and sheer passion for life left lasting impressions on everyone he met. Dennis’s legacy of creativity and determination will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
