Diane Mary Kent, age 86, entered into the arms of the Lord on March 30, 2026, after a life marked by love, faith, and service.
Born in Algona, Iowa, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Diane survived a serious childhood illness that inspired her lifelong calling to nursing. She trained at St. Joseph Nursing School and the University of Dallas, later joining a pioneering medical team in Houston during the early days of open-heart surgery. Her career spanned ICU and recovery room nursing in Houston, Texas, and Mobile, Alabama, and she concluded her service as a traveling Red Cross nurse. Caring for others was truly her gift.
She married John C. Patton in 1962, with whom she raised two daughters, and later found lasting love with Duane Charles Kent, whom she married in 1991 and cherished until his passing in 2024.
Her greatest joy was being a mother—the steady, nurturing “rock” of her family and the most devoted mother her daughters could have asked for.
Diane loved her Catholic faith, her church family, family traditions, her grandchildren, and time spent dancing, camping, entertaining, and playing the piano—especially when shared with Duane. Her family is grateful for the tender final year they were able to share with her and extends heartfelt thanks to Father Mark Neske, caregivers Dawn Davis and Pat McGee, her Vitas Healthcare team, and all who visited and prayed for and with her.
She was preceded in death by her mother Madelyn Hutchens; grandson Stephen Lott Jr.; brother Gary Hutchens; and husband Duane Kent. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Patton and Jill Patton; bonus children Jason Kent (Lelani) and Lisa Kent; grandchildren Madelyn Claire Lott, Ashley Lott (Chris), Majesty Greer, Dynasty Greer, Emily Kent, and Olivia Kent; sister Linda White (Steve); sister-in-law Karen Hutchens; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1400 Joyce Rd, Mobile, AL 36618.
