Diane Linda Scheffelin (maiden name: Toole), 75, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Born on September 15, 1950, in the same city she called home throughout her life, Diane’s journey was one of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and deep love for her family and community.

Over the course of a distinguished 30-year career with the State of Texas, Diane rose through the ranks from payroll secretary to project manager—a testament to her determination, intelligence, and work ethic. Even after retirement, her dedication to service led her back to the state as a contractor, continuing to contribute her skills and experience.

Diane’s life was defined not only by professional accomplishments but by an extraordinary commitment to others. A devoted member of Grace Covenant Church in Austin, she served in numerous ministries and outreach programs that reflected her heart for people. Whether volunteering in Grace childcare or participating in Night to Shine events for individuals with special needs; leading Women’s Discipleship and Bible Study groups; or offering care through Volunteer Caregiver services—Diane gave freely of her time and spirit. She also engaged deeply with Precepts Bible Study and Mission Possible initiatives and extended compassion through Church Under the Bridge.

Her passion for missions took her across borders as she traveled both within and outside the United States to serve communities in need. She hosted Ukrainian refugees in her home and taught English as a second language to Afghan refugees—acts that embodied her belief in hospitality and global compassion. Alongside her husband Mike, Diane opened their home countless times to individuals and families needing a place to stay, offering not just shelter but warmth and belonging.

Diane found joy in nature and adventure. An avid birder and hiker, she loved exploring the outdoors and participating in community races. Her adventurous spirit carried into global travels that enriched her understanding of the world and deepened her empathy for others.

Above all else, Diane cherished her family. She is survived by her beloved husband Mike Scheffelin; daughter Brenda Wolff; granddaughter Cailyn Wolff; grandson Andrew Wolff; sister Deborah Judah; brother Donald Toole; nieces Paula Freeman, Jacinda Simmons, Jenise Holland; nephews James Pool and Joshua Toole.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frankie Jo Toole and Nolan Toole.

Diane will be remembered as a woman whose life radiated love. Her ability to see the needs of others—and meet them with grace—was unmatched. Whether offering a listening ear or practical help, she brought comfort wherever she went. A natural problem-solver with an adventurous soul, Diane believed that nothing was impossible when approached with courage and faith.

She was a phenomenal grandmother who delighted in taking Cailyn and Andrew on adventures while providing them with unwavering love and support. Her legacy lives on through every life she touched—with kindness that echoed far beyond words.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire acts of love around the world. A Memorial Service will be held on January 31, 2025, from 01:30 PM to 02:30 PM at Grace Covenant Church Worship Center 9431 Jollyville Rd., Austin, Texas. After the service there will be a reception in the lobby.
