He left his small hometown to join the carnival circuit, traveling across the United States and collecting stories that would later become cherished memories shared with friends and family. Dickey proudly served in the United States Army for thirteen years. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1976; Giessen, Germany in June 1977; and Korea from 1984 to 1985. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, he served as a utility helicopter technician, Lance Crewman/MLRS sergeant, and utility helicopter repairer. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous medals and certifications in recognition of his dedication and skill. He was honorably discharged on July 8, 1988.
Following his military retirement, Dickey began a new journey when he married the love of his life, Janet Sequin, on November 30th, 1989. They celebrated their union with a joyful gathering in Roy, Washington among close friends. With Janet came two stepdaughters—Sandy Bottrell and Christina Ochs—whom he welcomed into his heart as family. In time, they became grandparents with the birth of Billie Jean Ochs and Gage Ochs in 1994. Later came great-grandchildren Cale Ochs and Azreal Ochs—each bringing him immense pride and joy.
Dickey retired from Boeing in 2014 after years of dedicated work. In retirement, he embraced life with the same vigor that had always defined him. A man of many hobbies and talents, he found joy in gold prospecting and metal detecting—always searching for hidden treasures beneath the surface. He was an avid coin collector and known for hosting unforgettable cookouts that brought together people from all walks of life.
He also gave back generously to his community during difficult times by helping feed those in need—a reflection of his deep compassion and sense of duty beyond uniformed service.
Those who knew Dickey remember him as a straight shooter—loyal to a fault—and someone who lived life fully on his own terms. His presence was magnetic, whether at the racetrack or camping up at Cispus with loved ones under starlit skies, he made every moment count.
He is survived by his beloved wife Janet Sequin; stepdaughters Sandy Bottrell and Christina Ochs; grandchildren Billie Jean Ochs and Gage Ochs; great-grandchildren Cale Ochs and Azreal Ochs; siblings Jimmy Arthur Sequin, Susan Marie Russel, Douglas Rickey Sequin, Daniel Mark Sequin, Larry Lou Sequin, Kerry Quade Sequin, Charlene Jane Sequin, Louri Linn Sequin, and Claria Jean Tomzac Sequin.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis Martin Sequin and Claria Mae Bow Sequin; sister Irma Frasher; brothers Dean Sequin and Louis "Smokey" Sequin.
