Dina Wagner Bowers, 94, of Flemington, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2025.
Born on September 8, 1931, in Summit, New Jersey, Dina was raised on her father's dairy farm in Warren, Somerset County. From an early age she was deeply involved in farm life, working everywhere from the bottling line to milk deliveries—experiences that shaped her strong work ethic and lifelong love of land, home, and family.
She graduated from North Plainfield High School and, with her eye always on James Bowers, married her beloved Jim, with whom she shared 70 devoted years of marriage. In 1955, they moved to Seven Springs Farm in Pittstown, New Jersey, where they raised their five daughters and built a life rooted in family, faith, hospitality, and service. In 1996, Dina and Jim placed their cherished Seven Springs Farm into the New Jersey Farmland Preservation Program, ensuring the land would be permanently protected for agricultural use.
Dina was deeply engaged in her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher and deacon at Bethlehem United Presbyterian Church, and an active member of the local historical society. She was also well known as a loved and respected bus driver for Fleming's Transportation. In addition, Dina was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and worked as a clinical laboratory assistant at the Hunterdon Medical Center.
After her daughters were grown, Dina and Jim transformed the farmhouse into a lively bed-and-breakfast, delighting guests with generous farm breakfasts and warm hospitality. Entertaining came naturally to Dina, and visitors were always welcomed as friends.
An avid reader, Dina immersed herself in subjects ranging from history and art to great literature and gardening. Gardening, in particular, was a constant joy throughout her life. She never tired of nurturing and transforming her home and surroundings with her green thumb.
Dina was predeceased by her husband, James Bowers, and one grandchild.
She is survived by her five daughters: Betsy of Cranesville, Pennsylvania; Eileen of Homosassa, Florida; Bonnie of Pittstown, New Jersey; Mamie of Flemington, New Jersey; and Jamie of Ringoes, New Jersey; as well as thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In keeping with her generous spirit—and as her husband had done before her—Dina donated her body to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School to support the education of future physicians.
A private celebration of Dina's life will be held in June, when her family gathers for their annual reunion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dina's name may be made to Hunterdon Hospice.
