With gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce that Dolores Ann Kurowski passed away peacefully at her home in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 17, 2025, following a long illness. She was 92 years old.
Born on April 28, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dolores was the cherished daughter of Pearl and Donald Hoig. She spent part of her childhood in Erie, Pennsylvania, before her father left the financial industry to purchase a farm in McKean, Pennsylvania. There, Dolores and her older brother, Donald Jr., attended a one-room schoolhouse before she continued her education at Edinboro Academy in Edinboro, Pennsylvania — an experience that helped shape her lifelong appreciation for learning, community, and tradition.
In 1953, Dolores met Victor Kurowski at a church youth group in Erie, PA. Their meeting began a devoted partnership that would span decades. They married the following year and soon relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, when General Electric opened Appliance Park. Dolores began her professional life as a secretary at Appliance Park before embracing her role as a mother to Cindy and Frank. After her children were grown, she returned to the workforce as an office manager for a local business.
Faith, service, and community were guiding forces throughout Dolores’s life. She was an active and devoted member of Bethany United Church of Christ, where she volunteered as church secretary and prepared weekly bulletins. Later, at Bethel United Church of Christ, she served on the church council. Ultimately, she and Victor found their church home at Beargrass Christian Church, where they formed lasting friendships and remained faithful members.
Dolores found happiness in life’s quiet moments. She loved playing the piano, tending her garden, sewing, quilting, and keeping in touch with friends through long phone conversations. A devoted animal lover, she cared for her dogs, cockatoo, and later her beloved cats — especially Bobbie and Muffin.
Her commitment to the arts was evident in her thirty years as a docent at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. In recognition of her extraordinary dedication, a chair in the auditorium was named in her honor — a lasting tribute to her voluntary work.
Dolores was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Mayflower Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, reflecting her strong sense of heritage and connection to community.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Kurowski (Lee), and her son, Frank Kurowski (Marianne); her grandsons, Will Chick (Danielle) and Matt Chick (Hetvi); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Rohan and Norah, who brought her immense pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor Kurowski; her brother, Donald Hoig Jr. (Elaine); and Victor’s siblings Delphine (Leo), Genevieve (Joseph and Al), Sister Consuella, Virginia (Casimir), Geraldine (Chester and Vernon), and Lawrence (Mary Ann).
Dolores was laid to rest beside her husband at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
