Dominick A. Frigo, the proud patriarch of a family that spans four generations, has died.

A long-time resident of Chicago and Orland Park, Ill., Mr. Frigo, 93, died Jan. 21, at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital in Palos Heights, Ill., after a short illness.

Mr. Frigo, the son of the late Peter and Pauline (nee Carollo) Frigo, was born March 1, 1932, in Chicago. He was raised in the Pullman neighborhood and graduated from Pullman Technical High School where he played baseball and basketball. He then attended Western Illinois University on a basketball scholarship. While at Western he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1952 -1954 in occupied Germany.

Upon completing his service, he returned to Western Illinois and graduated. He earned a master's degree at Southern Illinois University and a certificate of advanced study in administration and supervision from the University of Illinois.

Mr. Frigo worked at several Illinois schools. He was a teacher, counselor and coach at Kankakee Unit District 111, assistant principal at H.L. Richards High School, and director of pupil personnel services at Elmwood Park District 401.

In 1973 he was hired at Oak Lawn Community High School as director of student activities, special education and public relations. He rose to become superintendent in 1986. He retired in 1994. He was active in the Oak Lawn Rotary Club.

In 1958 he married Joanne Lotz. They were married 66 years, until Mrs. Frigo's death in 2024. They had three children and lived for many years in the Beverly community where they were active at Christ the King Catholic Church. They moved to Orland Park in 1981 and were members of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Mr. Frigo took his family on annual camping trips throughout the United States. He enjoyed traveling, history, movies, following sports and staying current with world events. He especially enjoyed spending time and engaging with family.

He is survived by his three children: Michael Frigo of Orland Park, Carol Frigo (Jon Morgan) of Baltimore, Md., Andrea Hartigan (Michael Hartigan) of Ellicott City, Md., nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Peter and Elwood.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, 9:30 a.m., St. Michael Catholic Church, 14327 Highland Ave., Orland Park, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a favorite charity.
