Don Anderson

Don Anderson, born on December 19, 1940, in Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, in Mattoon, Illinois. He was 85 years old.

Don was the cherished father of daughters Dawn Anderson, Lauren Ross, Dawna Hull (Bobby), Margaret Urban (Matt), Tara Anderson, and Susan Newcome (Sean), as well as his son Erik Anderson. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 14. He is also survived by his loyal companion for the last 15 years, Alice Etchison (Mattoon, IL) and his beloved former wife Margaret "Peggy" Herlikofer Anderson Gaffigan, sister Joyce Anderson Wheeler (Rick) and brother Gene Anderson (Bev) all residing in Springfield IL. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Blanche and by his two infant sons, both Don Anderson.

Don approached life with remarkable positivity and resilience. His enduring optimism left an indelible mark on those who knew him and served as a source of inspiration to many.

Don found joy in staying active as an avid Pickleball and Handball player throughout the years. He was also an enthusiastic reader passionate about learning all he could about life and religion. Don held a deep appreciation for animals, treasuring every encounter with them throughout his life. Don was steadfast in his efforts to ensure those around him knew how much he loved and appreciated them.
