Donald Ernest Atwell Getson, 93, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.

Born on September 10, 1932, Don grew up in Medford and Somerville, Massachusetts. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1951 and went on to earn his degree in civil engineering at Northeastern University in 1959, attending classes at night while working full time, a reflection of the determination and quiet perseverance that defined his life.

Don began working at Boston Edison at just 18 years old as a mail clerk. Through hard work, dedication, and integrity, he built a 43-year career with the company before retiring at age 63. He also proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves.

A man of deep Christian faith, Don found great joy in serving his church community. He generously shared his musical gifts as both a soloist and choir member, lifting others through song and worship. His faith was not only something he professed — it was something he lived daily through kindness, humility, and service.

Most importantly, Don was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carol (Peterson) Getson, and a steady, loving father and grandfather. Known affectionately as "Umpa" to his grandchildren, he had a gentle and reassuring presence that made those around him feel safe and valued. He possessed a rare combination of quiet strength and playful humor, always ready with a clever quip and an easy laugh. He was deeply loved, and he loved deeply in return.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Carol (Peterson) Getson; his parents, Ernest and Margaret Getson; his brothers, Alan and Albert Getson; and his son, Donald A. Getson.

He is survived by his daughters, Robin Getson Spagnuolo and her husband, Luigi; Lori Getson DeGraw and her fiancé, Paul; and Pamela Watson and her husband, Daniel. He also leaves behind his nine beloved grandchildren, Hillary, Victoria, Olivia, Zachary, Amanda, Abigail, Julia, Sarah, and Cameron and his three precious great-grandchildren, Connor, Eva, and Vivienne.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Daniel L. Moore Memorial Chapel at the Alton Bay Christian Retreat Center in Alton Bay, New Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alton Bay Christian Retreat Center.

Don's life was a life well lived, marked by faith, devotion, quiet strength, and love. His steady presence will be deeply missed, but the example he set and the love he gave will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
