Obituary — Don Parrish
Donald Woodrow Parrish of Florida, 83, died Dec. 3 after a life lived with confidence, warmth and unmistakable presence. Don kept close to his Alabama roots throughout his life and was a hero to his family. He was generous by nature and rarely without friends nearby. He especially loved boating, travel and great music.
Don started his career with IBM at NASA during the Apollo space program, helping build the massive Saturn V moon rockets, including Apollo 11, the first manned moon landing in 1969. After the Apollo program, his career with IBM took him around the world as he advanced into upper management. Later, he and his wife, Bonnie, founded a successful commercial business brokerage in South Florida. Throughout his life, Don was a man of energy, ambition and charm, and was known to be a lot of fun to be around.
Don spent most of his later life in North Carolina and Florida, spending much of his time boating and fishing. In his final days, he moved back to his hometown in Alabama to be cared for by his niece, Kim Parrish.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his son, Donald Guy Parrish, of Wilmington, North Carolina; his daughter, Cynthia Parrish, of Gelderland, the Netherlands; and his niece, Kim Parrish, of Trussville, Alabama.
He will be remembered for his generosity, his charm and a life lived fully and on his own terms.
