Donald Orville Routly, 96, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born October 17, 1928, in Port Huron, Michigan to Philip and Annie (Edwards) Routly.
Don grew up on a farm in Montrose and graduated from Rogers City High School. A proud Army Sergeant, Don served during the Occupation of Japan and the Korean War. Following his service he built a successful career in quarry operations, design and sales.
In 1950 Don married his beloved Joyce Marie (Wirgau) with whom he shared 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. A man of deep Christian faith and boundless optimism, Don was known for his kindness and zest for life. He enjoyed playing and teaching golf, tennis, skiing, cards and board games, especially with his grandchildren. Don's greatest joy was found in "family time".
He is survived by his four children: Gwen (Mark) Funderwhite, Linda (Mark) Stephenson, Pam (Dave) Ward, Don (Keri) Routly; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great- great-grandchild, including his dear nephew, Ron Toll. He was preceded into everlasting life by his wife, parents and siblings: Ila, Gordon,Ted, Bob and Larry.
A Celebration of Life for Don and Joyce will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 11am to 2pm at The Indian River Golf Club in Michigan. Memorials may be directed to Hospice or through simple acts of kindness to others.
