Mr. Donald A. Sapanara Sr., fondly known as Don, passed away on February 14, 2026, at home with his family in Cape Coral, Florida, at the age of 90. Born on April 10, 1935, in Little Ferry, New Jersey, Don lived a life marked by dedication and love for his family, community, and the outdoors.

After graduating from Bergen County Vocational High School in NJ, Don proudly volunteered in Moonachie, NJ, as both Fire Chief and Police Marshall. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and served in the Army National Guard. Don retired from Otis Elevators in 1993 after three decades of work in New York City and later, Ft. Myers, FL. Don's life was enriched by his love for boating and fishing, and spent summers at his home at the Jersey Shore. After retirement Don discovered golfing and was a regular at the Cape Royal Golf Course, in Cape Coral, Fl. He also enjoyed a good Manhattan and watching Vanna on "Wheel of Fortune."

Don is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Sapanara, his three children, of whom he was immensely proud, Don Jr. (Mary Beth) of Brick, NJ, Dawn Cefalone (Dominick) of Cape Coral, FL, and Dr. Nancy (fiancé Brian Booth) of Tucson, AZ. Don was also also blessed with three grandchildren, Tiffany, Amanda, and Nick.

Don's memory will be cherished by those who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the love and support he provided to his family and community. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
