Donna "Tutu" David
April 2, 1943 - December 3, 2025

Donna "Tutu" David passed away peacefully at her home in Bremerton, Washington, on December 3, 2025, surrounded by love. She was 82 years old.

Born on April 2, 1943, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Donna spent her early childhood in California before growing up largely in Montana, a place that shaped her quiet strength. As a young woman, she worked early mornings at a bakery and fondly remembered the soft calls of mourning doves as she left for work.

After Donna married James Hofmann, she welcomed her first son, Dane Hofmann, whom she treasured dearly. After moving to Washington State, she went on to serve her community as a police officer for the City of Bremerton, a role she fulfilled with resolve until she was injured in the line of duty and medically retired.

During this time, Donna married Jeffrey David and became a devoted presence in the lives of his children, Brenda, Jeff, and Brad, whom she loved deeply. She later welcomed her youngest daughter, Tawni, and continued pouring herself into the care of her family and others. Over the years, she and Jeff shared a long life together, marked by commitment as they navigated life's ups and downs side by side.

In retirement, Donna served as a hospice volunteer, sitting with patients in their final days, offering comfort and quiet companionship. In the early 2000s, she and Jeff also worked together providing security through the Kitsap County Sheriff Department at the courthouse, a role that invigorated her sense of duty.

Donna cherished her grandchildren and attended many recitals, sporting events, and special milestones. She was well known for her beloved "Tutu Tea Parties" and for a candy drawer that was always fully stocked. Her love showed up in small traditions and faithful attention. Her final days were brightened most by visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She had a creative eye, especially when it came to photography, and enjoyed experimenting with her favorite camera. Over many years, she became the de facto family photographer, capturing so many precious moments. She loved trips to the Oregon Coast with family and friends, shopping outings, and peaceful days spent feeding and watching birds and squirrels in what her family affectionately called their backyard wildlife sanctuary. Just two days before her passing, a lone mourning dove appeared in the tree that sheltered their backyard birds. Tutu specifically asked that it be a sign to family and friends to think of her.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Donald Britton; her mother, Stella Britton; and her husband, Jeffrey David.

She is survived by her children: Brenda David; Dane Hofmann (Charlie); Jeffrey David (Kaylie); Bradley David (Lena); and Tawni Krause (Jason); along with 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who continue her legacy of steadfast love.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice team with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and to the personal caregivers, both private and through Generations Home Care, for their compassionate care and steady support.
