Donna Helzer, aged 75, passed away on February 20, 2026 in Shelby Twp, MI. Born on May 27, 1950, Donna dedicated over 20 years of her life as a Beauty Advisor at Walgreens where she was cherished for her warmth and eagerness to assist customers. Donna attended Utica High School and Macomb Community College and was deeply committed to her church community and personal relationships.

Known for her kindness and generosity, Donna was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a thoughtful gift with both friends and strangers. Her home was often filled with unique finds from antique stores and garage sales, showcasing her love for a good bargain. She always had multiples and would say to anyone in conversation "wait, I have one (or three) of those!"

"Shopping" at Gram-Marts was a highlight of her grandkids, always heading to the basement or closet for Gram's newest find.

Donna was tiny, but mighty and instilled fear in all the friends of her kids and grandkids growing up, which later became a joke when they learned how harmless she actually was. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids grow up and attended every concert, show, or sport event they were in. She was always their biggest fan, cheering the loudest in person and behind the scenes.

She was always late... to everything! But she showed up, arms full with "here, I saw this and thought of you." or "here I found this at a garage sale..." She never arrived anywhere empty handed.

She loved roadside stands, concerts, a cold beer on a hot day (Corona with lime,) collecting books, "good boxes" (hey, save that! That's a good box!) and singing along to "Toes in the Sand" by Zac Brown Band.

She always looked forward to her favorite springtime blooms, lilacs, often pulling over on the side of the road to clip some. She always had scissors in the car for when she saw the perfect lilac tree (or bushes) anywhere in Macomb County. She loved the sweet smell and beauty of them.

Donna's faith played a significant role in her life as a devoted member of the Orchard Ridge Church of Washington. Her spiritual life was a testament to her caring and giving nature.

She leaves behind a loving family: daughters Amy Kepler and Heather Kepler, son Jarrod Helzer, granddaughters Jordan Marker and Savannah Storing, and sisters Cynthia (Brandi and Billy) , Barbara, (Chris, Cari,
and Bradley) and Michele (Joseph and Bradley.)

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Helzer, parents: Hazel Zagerman and Cecil Barker, and aunt Nunie (Eunice Barker) Collins.

A memorial service to celebrate Donna's life will be held on May 27, 2026 with details to be announced at a later date. Donna's life was a beacon of kindness and love. She loved her girls and really loved being a "gram" to Jordan (her Doodle) and Savannah and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
