Donna Lea Toombs (née Marshall), age 85, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Olathe, Kansas.
Born on April 5, 1940, in Bedford, Iowa, Donna grew up with a strong sense of family and community. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1958, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Burnell "Burnie" Toombs. Their bond was one of deep affection and enduring partnership.
Donna was known for her generosity and loving nature. She would do anything for anybody, always putting others before herself. Gift giving was her love language—she found joy in bringing happiness to others through thoughtful gestures. Her stubborn spirit was matched only by her unwavering commitment to those she cared about.
A woman of faith and service, Donna was active in her church and dedicated much of her time to volunteering. Whether helping with church events or supporting those in need, she gave freely of her time and energy to serve others.
She was the loving mother of Laurie Dale and her husband Daniel Dale, and the devoted mother-in-law to Linda Mills-Toombs. Donna's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Zach Dale, Hannah Bain and her husband Phil Bain, Riley Toombs, and Ben Toombs. She is also remembered fondly by her sister Janice Spicer and husband Rodney Spicer, and her brother Mike Marshall.
Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband Burnie Toombs; her son Robert "Bob" Toombs; her Parents Francis and Orlene Marshall; her sister Karen Hays; and her brother Allan Marshall.
Her warmth, strength, and selfless heart touched many lives. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 7, 2026 at 2pm at Hillcrest Christian Church 11411 S Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210.
