Doreen Lachapelle, 78, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Suffield, Connecticut. Born on March 17, 1947, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Doreen brought warmth and joy to all who knew her throughout her life.
Doreen was a bright star with a smile that could light up any room. Her presence radiated positivity and love—qualities she shared freely and generously. Whether through a comforting word or a quiet gesture of support, she had an innate ability to make others feel seen and cared for.
She dedicated many years of her professional life to R.J. Michaelski in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, where she was known for her perfectionism and strong work ethic. After retiring, Doreen embraced the joys of home life and nature. For 27 years, she and her husband Jeff Rowley made their home in Old Lyme, where she lovingly tended to their flower gardens. Gardening was one of her greatest passions—a reflection of the care and attention she gave to everything in her life.
Living by the shore brought Doreen immense peace. She found serenity walking along the beach, listening to the waves and birdsong. These simple pleasures became cherished moments that she delighted in sharing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Family was at the heart of Doreen’s world. In addition to her loving husband of 30 years, Jeff Rowley, she is survived by family in Agawam, her first husband Fred Soden, her daughters Kelly Mahoney and husband Jim, Sheileen Soden, and Courtney Caruso and husband Darren of Southwick, as well as her beloved grandchildren Connor, Colin, Stephanie, Tyler, Shannon, Camden—and among them were great-grandchildren who brought added joy to her later years.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Craig Lachapelle and his wife, Monique Lachapelle, Jeffrey Lachapelle, Eric Lachapelle and his wife, along with many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
Doreen was predeceased by her son Ryan Soden, grandson Cody Soden, brother Richard Lachapelle, father Richard Lachapelle, and mother Gloria Lachapelle.
Her hobbies reflected the vibrant spirit she carried throughout life—gardening with care and creativity, enjoying long walks on the beach, discovering treasures while thrifting, and gathering around card games with loved ones.
Per Doreen’s wishes, the family will celebrate her life with a private ceremony.
May Doreen’s memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire kindness and love in all our hearts.
