Doris M. Cameron-Minard of Wilsonville, Oregon passed away on Oct. 2, 2025. She was born July 22, 1934 to Harvey and Vera Munce in Portland, Oregon. She attended Franklin High, Cascade College and Portland State University, where she earned her Doctorate in Education. She was a longtime elementary school teacher, counselor and retired as principle of Ventura Park Elementary in the David Douglas School District, Portland, Oregon. Beyond her career in education, Doris was a passionate mental health advocate. She served as President of NAMI Oregon, A Crisis Intervention Training founder and advisor to the Portland Police Department, a strong advocate for mental health parity and supportive housing. She was a faithful member of Rolling Hills Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dwight Cameron and Dr. Eugene Minard. She is survived by her loving son, James Lee Cameron, her sister Sandra Bailess (Laurence), nephews Jeff, David and Kaden, and her companion Richard who brought adventure and happiness into her life.
Doris was a published author, a devoted mother, a proud Democrat, a strong advocate for those who could not speak for themselves. Her kindness was felt by so many. She cherished her home, working in her garden, writing, American history, Swedish and German genealogy, baking pies, dancing, traveling around Oregon, Thanksgivings with the Colgan/Muzzin family and shopping with her sister.
A private family graveside service was held on October 17, 2025. A Celebration of Life will take place at The Old Historic McMenamins Church in Wilsonville, Oregon on November 19, 2025 from 4-6:00 p.m. If able, RSVP to
