Doris Bockmann Youtz died on August 8, 2022, at her home in Greenbrae, California. She was born in Utica, New York, in 1919. Predeceased by her husband, Ellis G. Youtz, in 1996, and her son James in 2014, she is survived by her son Peter.
After graduating from Wellesley College in 1941, Doris taught at the Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at the Girls’ Latin School in Chicago. In 1943, she joined the WAVES. During the war she met U.S. Naval Commander Ellis Youtz, and they were married in 1946. After several moves during their Navy life, they settled in San Rafael, where she taught in elementary classrooms for 23 years.
She lived happily at The Tamalpais in Greenbrae for the last 32 years of her life. According to her wishes, no services were held. The Neptune Society of Marin performed cremation and arranged for the disposal of her ashes at sea.
