Dorothy Broadbelt (née Torrey), age 91, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, in Apex, North Carolina.

Born on November 24, 1933, in Camden, New Jersey, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of Dorothy and Warren Torrey. From a young age, she carried a gentle and quiet spirit that would remain with her throughout her life. She met her future husband, Rodney Broadbelt, when they were both just 18 years old. The two married at the age of 19 and soon embarked on an early chapter of their life together in Alaska, where Rodney was stationed with the U.S. Army. They lived there for a little over a year—an adventure that marked the beginning of their lifelong journey as partners. After living in Pennsylvania for most of their lives, they made a move to NC during their retirement.

Dorothy devoted herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother during her children’s early years. Once they were older, she entered the workforce and held several roles that reflected her nurturing nature and strong work ethic. She worked at an insurance company and later at a daycare center. However, it was her role as a nanny to two sweet boys that brought her the greatest joy in her professional life—a position she cherished for many years.

Her faith played a central role in her life. Dorothy gave her heart to Jesus while raising her young family and remained His faithful servant throughout the years. Her devotion was evident not only in how she lived but also in how she loved—quietly, steadfastly, and with grace.

Dorothy had many creative talents and found joy in expressing them through various handcrafts. Before Alzheimer’s touched her later years, she delighted in painting and crewel embroidery. Flower gardening was another favorite pastime; tending to blooms brought peace to her days and beauty to those around her.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl Brewer and son-in-law Tony Brewer; son Jeffrey Broadbelt and daughter-in-law Nancy Broadbelt; grandchildren Hannah Holder and husband Scott Holder, Caitlyn Brewer, Mark Brewer, Kelly Broadbelt, Madison Broadbelt; and great-grandchildren Riley Holder and Finn Holder.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodney Broadbelt; son Mark Broadbelt; and parents Dorothy and Warren Torrey.

A woman who laughed easily and wore a big smile, Dorothy leaves behind memories filled with warmth, creativity, faith, and love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
