Dorothy Evelyn Feisel passed away on December 26, 2025, in Chestertown, MD, at the age of 90.
Dorothy was born on April 27, 1935, in Exira, IA, to Haakon and Louise (Jensen) Stadsvold. She graduated from high school in Exira, then attended Iowa State University in Ames, where she earned a bachelor's degree in home economics. Dorothy married Lyle Dean Feisel of Tama, IA, on June 15, 1957, immediately following her college graduation. Their enduring marriage of more than 68 years lasted until Lyle's death on November 5, 2025.
Dorothy's roles as wife, mother, and grandmother were her greatest joy and the central focus of her long life. She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, and homemaker who enjoyed welcoming others into her home. Dorothy periodically worked as a teacher and was engaged in various volunteer and public service activities throughout her life. Always proud of her Danish heritage, she served for several years on the board of directors of the Museum of Danish America.
The Feisels raised their children in Rapid City, SD, and her husband's academic career then took them to Binghamton, NY, in 1983. The couple were world travelers, including a year spent with their young family in Taiwan in 1969-70, and a 4-month trek around the world in 1995. They moved to St. Michaels, MD, upon Lyle's retirement and subsequently moved to the Heron Point retirement community in Chestertown, MD, in 2014.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her three children, Patricia (and husband Greg) Cargill of West Chester, OH, Margaret (and husband Donald) Craig of Lexington, MA, and Kenneth Feisel (and husband Derek Nguyen) of Brooklyn, NY, as well as her two beloved grandchildren, Allison Cargill and Jeffrey (and wife Lauren) Cargill, both of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother, and sister.
