Dorothy M. Loeb ("Dotty"), a vibrant spirit whose style and determination left a lasting impression on all who knew her, passed away on September 12, 2021, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was 101 years old.

Born on November 27, 1919, in Rochester, New York, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Jacob (Jack) and Anna Maranes. From an early age, she displayed a flair for the dramatic and the stylish—a combination that would shape much of her life. Her love for theater blossomed during her high school years and continued into adulthood through her involvement in numerous community theater productions during her early married life.

During World War II, she joined the USO where she played piano and sang to entertain those troops waiting to be deployed. It was there that she met her future husband and the love of her life.

Dorothy married Jacob M. Loeb II (Jake), with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond until his passing. Together they raised two children—Robert E. Loeb and Patricia A. Michaels—her pride and joy and always the best dressed children on the block!

A true original with a headstrong nature and a flaming redhead temper, Dorothy lived life with passion and purpose. She built an extraordinary career in retail designer fashion—a field that perfectly matched her eye for style and love of people. Her work was more than a profession; it was a calling that brought her joy well into her 80s. Whether at parties, the theater, or even the grocery store, Dorothy was always impeccably dressed—turning heads with her timeless elegance.

Family meant everything to Dorothy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jake; her sister-in-law Alice Bendheim, her parents Jack and Anna; her mother and father-in-law Ruth and Hamilton M. Loeb, her sister Shirley and brother-in-law Howie Leess; brother-in-law Sonny Hoffman; son-in-law Robert E. Michaels; and daughter-in-law Susan Kramer Loeb.

She is survived by her cherished children Bob Loeb and Patty Michaels and her beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Jo Loeb (Becca) and JoAnna Leigh Michaels (Joie), who carry forward her legacy of strength, style, and spirited independence, as well as her brother-in-law Hamilton M. Loeb Jr. (Hammy), and an assortment of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In later years, Dorothy remained committed to living fully, cultivating new friendships and staying active as long as she could. Her beauty, resilience and zest for life were evident to all who encountered her.

May Dorothy's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire grace, courage, and flair in generations to come.
