Dorothy Louise Sawyer Williams died on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on September 27, 1931, in Wood River, Illinois, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Williams, her daughter Carol, her parents, Fred Harold and Madama Rives Sawyer and her brother, Glen "Jim" Sawyer. Dorothy is survived by her children Tom, Fred (Jan), and Ann Williams (Martin Leister), grandchildren Stuart Williams (Brittany), Lindsey Whitworth (Todd), Cindi Rhodes (David), Ross Williams (Shelby), eight great-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

Dorothy graduated from Roxana High School in 1949 in the same class as Joe and they were married in August 1952. They lived in Alexandria, Virginia, while Joe served in the Army. They moved back to Roxana, Illinois, where they raised their family until 1974, when Joe's employer transferred the family to Houston, Texas.

Best known as the Egg Lady, Dorothy was skilled in the art of Pysanky — the Ukrainian art of decorated Easter eggs — and was warmly embraced by the Ukrainian community. She was recently honored by the Ukrainian Consulate with a special commendation in recognition of her dedication to the promotion of the art. She taught classes, sold her work at craft bazaars and festivals, and held live demonstrations annually.

She was also a talented decorative painter, rug hooker, weaver, spinner, candle maker, silk screen printer, sewist, and Zentangler. She loved creating her Zentangle doodles and making special greeting cards for her friends and family. Her hands were never idle.

Dorothy was a 55-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was initiated into Chapter JE in Illinois. She became a member of Chapter EP after moving to Houston.

She was was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston. She served for more than 40 years on the Art Committee and worked with the youth at Summer Celebration teaching weaving and fiber arts. She was also an active member of the Contemporary Handweavers of Houston.

After Joe's passing, she moved to Eagle's Trace Senior Living where she made many friends and enjoyed playing all types of games nearly every night.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
