Dorothy Rose “Dottie” Witt, née Witte, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Lakeway, Texas, at the age of 96. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dottie lived a life marked by resilience, faith, and service.

Born on October 27, 1929, in League City, Texas, Dottie was the daughter of Elton John Witte Sr. and Hettie Drake Witte. She grew up in a loving family and was raised in the Methodist Church—a foundation that would guide her throughout her life. In 1943, at just 14 years old, she was appointed as an "Observer" for the Ground Observer Corps of the Aircraft Warning Services under the U.S. Army Air Services—an early sign of her dedication to duty and community.

A bright student with a strong work ethic, Dottie graduated from Sugarland High School in 1946 at the age of 16 after being promoted a grade ahead. Following graduation, she moved to Houston where she began a long and varied career. She worked for Foley’s department store before joining Tennessee Gas (later Tenneco), where she also pursued continuing education courses in 1979. Over the years, she held positions with several doctors and dentists and later returned to work with Fina & Total before retiring.

Dottie raised four children primarily on her own—a testament to her strength and unwavering commitment to her family. Her deep Christian faith sustained her through life’s joys and sorrows. She was an active member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church and later First Methodist Church of Georgetown. At both congregations, she found spiritual fulfillment through participation in Sunday School classes, choir groups, and the Hannah Circle.

She cherished time spent living and fishing in Rockport with her sister Elaine and found great joy during her years in The Woodlands surrounded by church community and friends. In her final year of life, Dottie resided at Brookdale Assisted Living in Lakeway to be closer to her daughter Katie and son-in-law Gary. There she formed new friendships and received compassionate care from St. David's Hospice caregivers—especially Chaplain Holly, whose weekly prayers brought comfort.

Dottie is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Katie Reissig and husband Gary; Charlotte Cox and husband John; grandchildren Andrew Cox and wife Karolina, Becky Cox, Kathryn Melissa Cox; great-grandchildren Veronika and Filip Cox; sister Elaine Odell of San Antonio; brother Conrad Grady “Buddy” Witte of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elton John Witte Sr. and Hettie Drake Witte; sisters Ann Mohr and Josephine Blaschke; brother E.J. Witte Jr.; beloved sons Johnny Witt (1970) and Bill Witt Jr. (2020).

A memorial service celebrating Dottie's life will be held at a later date in February. Please contact Katie Reissig for future details. [email protected]
