Douglas Leon "Papa Doug" Gragg, 76, passed away on December 21, 2025, in Santa Maria, California. Born on August 19, 1949, in Bakersfield, California, Doug lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and faith.
Doug was a true entrepreneur and community leader. In 1984, he opened Central Floor Covering, laying the foundation for a successful career in business. His ventures expanded to include the purchase of Abbey Carpet and ServiceMaster franchises which remained in operation until 2016. He also created The Mold Detective which remains in business today. Through these enterprises, Doug built not only businesses but also lasting relationships throughout the region.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doug was deeply involved in civic life. He served as Chairman of the Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival and The Annual Circus. He also held roles as President of Kiwanis and Chairman of the Christmas Parade. His leadership extended to many other community events where his energy and commitment left a lasting impact.
Doug's love for life was infectious. If you were around him, you were going to have fun—his presence brought joy wherever he went. He had a passion for music and enjoyed challenging himself with chess and Sudoku puzzles. A devoted sports fan, he cheered enthusiastically for the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
A man of deep faith, Doug was a member of the Church of Christ. He often led prayers that concluded with his signature phrase: "And the church said, Amen." uniting those around him in spirit and fellowship.
Doug's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; children Toni, Neal, Stacey; and Rick by heart. He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughter Danielle and her husband Kit; sister Sharon; nephew Michael and his daughter Emma; niece Zenia and her husband Larry along with their daughter Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland D. Gragg and Martha Alyne Gragg.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Steven Clark for helping keep Doug mobile for as long as possible—a gift that allowed him to remain active in the life he loved.
A Celebration of Life meal will follow the service in true Doug fashion: a 49ers Tailgating Meal at 2300 Cienaga Street in Oceano. All who knew Doug are welcome to attend and share in honoring his memory.
May Douglas Leon "Papa Doug" Gragg's legacy continue to inspire joy, service, and togetherness among all who knew him.
