Douglas Wayne Ocheltree, 73, of Mount Sidney, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday January 11, 2026, after a short battle with liver cancer.

Doug was born on November 9, 1952, in Staunton, Virginia, to the late Lurty P. Ocheltree and Virginia (Gilbert) Ocheltree.

He graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 1971, where he was an active member of FFA and worked as a school bus driver while still attending high school. Doug was a lifelong, faithful, and active member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served for many years as Sexton.

Doug worked at Sunlite Plastics in Weyers Cave for 35 years as Head of Shipping and Receiving and later retired after 2 years as Plant Manager. In addition to his career, he worked full-time as a farmer on Rocky Tree Farm, his family farm of more than 100 years, proudly recognized as a Virginia Century Farm. In the 1980's, Doug was also co-owner and operator of the Sitting Bull Pulling Sled.

Above all else, Doug was a strong, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married Sharon "Sherry" Kay Belvin on April 9, 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his daughter, Nicole Ocheltree of Mount Sidney; and his grandson, the light of his world and his constant shadow, Marquel Ocheltree. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Steve Belvin (Lynn) of Ruckersville, VA; brother-in-law, Dennis Kurtz (Janice) of Springfield, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews; and his chosen son and daughter, Seth and Melissa Hower.

Doug's legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to family and church will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 417 Salem Church Road, Mount Sidney. After the service, there will be a meal provided with a time of fellowship where family will receive friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Douglas' memory, to the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Upkeep Fund, Post Office Box 38, Mount Sidney, Virginia 24467.
