Earl Lee "EarlLee" Pottorff, 85, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Moscow Mills, Missouri. Born on February 21, 1940, in Leon, Iowa, Earl lived a life marked by curiosity, innovation, and deep devotion to both his family and community.
A proud graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 1960, Earl began his professional journey as a chemical engineer at DuPont. His career soon evolved with the rise of computing technology; he transitioned into computer programming and contributed his talents to IBM, the Mayo Clinic, and McDonnell Douglas. His work was not only impactful but also inventive—he earned two invention awards each from DuPont and IBM for his contributions.
Beyond his professional achievements, Earl served as a firefighter in Poughkeepsie, New York—a testament to his commitment to public service. He also held the role of school board president, further demonstrating his dedication to education and community development.
Earl started an internet company in the early internet days for several years.
Earl's passions extended far beyond the workplace. A lifelong learner and teacher at heart, he was known for sharing stories that blended nature and technology with humor and insight. He had a deep love for meteorology and computers and found joy in camping trips with loved ones. His hobby farm was a place of peace and productivity where he practiced woodworking Bee Keeping, strawberries and Walnut Tree farming.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy (Nelson) Pottorff; children Scott (Sheila) Pottorff, Mark Pottorff, Andrew (Karen) Redalen, Tina Adams Redalen, and Megan Redalen Riegel; grandchildren Kara, Emily, Renee, Ivy, Lexy, LukeThomas, Cole,Luke Ray Marvel, Teyah, and Derek; great-grandchildren Logan ,Dominic, Riley, Carson, and Vernon; sisters Paula (Walt) Glade and Gail (Ed) Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Orpha (Stubbs) Pottorff ,and Earl William Pottorff; brothers Merle Pottorff and Joe Pottorff.
A storyteller with an infectious sense of humor and an encyclopedic knowledge of both nature and technology, Earl left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His influence shaped generations within his family—each member carrying forward pieces of his wisdom and warmth.
