Edgar A. Cook (‘Cookie’), 85, of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2025.
Born in Boston on November 13, 1940, he was the son of the late Albert Cook and Antoniette (Wolleh) Cook. Edgar is survived by his brother Anthony Cook (wife Celeste). He was predeceased by his sisters Alberta McElaney and Helen Cook.
In 1963 Edgar married the love of his life, Frances T. (Zahara) Cook, and together they shared 62 beautiful years of marriage. Edgar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. In his free time he could always be found doing what he loved most: tending his garden, hiking through the woods, playing a competitive game of chess, or perfecting his Sudoku puzzles on the computer. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world. He was never happier than when engaged in thoughtful conversations on any topic, always with an open mind and a positive spirit.
Edgar is lovingly survived by his wife Frances and their eight children (with spouses):
Frances Bruttaniti (John), Michael Cook (Susan), David Cook (Laura Collins), Stephen Cook, Mary Ann Gallant (Stephen), Kristina Cook-Denapoli (Josh Ney), Jonathan Cook (Allyson), James Cook (Kaitlyn)
He leaves behind thirteen cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Bruttaniti (wife Kelly), Emily Cook, Michael Cook, Annie Cook, Tyler Gallant, Amanda Gallant, Alec Denapoli, Zachary Denapoli, Gianna DeCelle (husband Ben) , Kayli Cook, Jillian Cook, Teagan Cook, and Tessa Cook; as well as three great-grandchildren: John Bruttaniti, Rosalie Bruttaniti, and Ryleigh White, with another great-grandchild, Jolene DeCelle, joyfully expected in February 2026.
Edgar’s warm presence and lighthearted humor brightened every family gathering. Though he is gone, his spirit and the countless memories he created will live on in all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday December 12th, 10:30AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Stoughton, MA. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to gather at the Stoughton VFW, 14 Seaver Street, Stoughton, to continue sharing stories of Edgar’s remarkable life.
In keeping with Edgar’s wishes, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
May he rest in eternal peace.
