Eduardo Enrique Alvarado

Eduardo “Ed” Alvarado of St. Michaels passed away on January 12, 2026 at Bayleigh Chase Assisted Living in Easton. Formerly of Fairfax, Va., he was 89.
An immigrant to the United States, he was born in Almirante, Panama. Mr. Alvarado was an architect and structural engineer who co-founded Gauthier, Alvarado, and Associates. The award-winning firm located in Falls Church, Va. recently marked 50 years in business.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years Chrys Stultz Alvarado; his brother Teofilo Alvarado; and his parents Teofilo and Ema Alvarado.
He is survived by sister Ileana Alvarado Pacheco of San Jose, Costa Rica; brother Carlos Alvarado of David, Panama; and brother Luis Alvarado (Patricia) of Boquete, Panama. He is also survived by his daughter Marcie Alvarado Molloy (Patrick) of Easton and son Ben Alvarado of Chantilly, Va. In addition, he has grandchildren Sophie Molloy and Joel Alvarado.
Mr. Alvarado earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, where he played collegiate baseball. He received a master’s degree from Virginia Tech University. Prior to starting GA&A, Mr. Alvarado worked for Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern, Inc., and for Perkins and Will, Inc.
Mr. Alvarado served on the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation in Washington, D.C. and was a past president of the American Institute of Architects, Northern Virginia chapter.
His local volunteer work included service to the ACE Mentor Program, the Talbot Riders, Partners for Patients, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the St. Michaels Community Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Alvarado on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Michaels Community Center.
