Edward Allan Whitfield, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 10, 2026. He was a loving husband, son, brother to 3 sisters, uncle to several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was also a teammate, and dear friend to so many.
Edward lived a full life with his wife Dani Jayleen. They had no children, but did have 35+ years of being the best of friends and soulmates. Edward was known for his keen intellect and abilities to learn in whatever situation he was in. He held several careers, retiring from his job as a computer automation engineer with the Federal Reserve Bank in 2018.
“Ed” was diagnosed with NETs Cancer back in 2017. He admirably and bravely met all of the challenges and hardships that came with that rare cancer. After a lifesaving and major operation in 2017, he went on for several years being able to attend celebrations, go on family visits and vacations, and do a good bit of traveling both through the USA and Europe with both family and our best friends. He bought a small farm in Virginia and become adept at rural living for a almost 2 decades. He learned to use farm equipment, maintain an old farmhouse, and he grew the best asparagus and blueberries! While there, he enjoyed caring for a myriad of adopted cats, chickens, rescue donkeys, and even some wild critters.
Up until, and even after his diagnosis, he was an exceptional athlete. He played basketball, wrestled and ran cross-country in High School, although Ultimate Frisbee would become his true passion for many years. He was a stellar player. He was on the first team (“Philmore”) to win the Worlds Ultimate Frisbee Championship (AKA “Ultimate Frisbee”) which was held in Germany in 1989. He continued to play Ultimate Frisbee well into his 50’s with just as much zest and ability as he always had.
He loved all kinds of music and playing acoustic guitar, especially around a bonfire with family and friends. He enjoyed making home-brewed beer, and tasty sourdough bread. He was a well-rounded man of many talents.
Edward will have a private, natural burial at Gethsame Cemetary in West Reading, under the care of the Kuhn funeral home. Dani Jayleen, his wife, will be organizing a celebration of life in May (invites to come) and asks that anyone with fond memories, stories or keepsakes to respond to the invite, and come ready to share and honor Edward’s life.
Edward will be remembered as someone with grit and a tireless advocate for NETs (Neuroendocrine Tumors). His life was saved and extended through years of great care by the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Dani Jayleen asks that anyone who might be willing and able to; donate to a NETS cause or HUP (https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MC&fund=602670&appeal=PMWEB) to do that in a way to honor the passing and celebrate the life of a wonderful, amazing man, Edward A. Whitfield.
