Edward Benham Wilmot, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Killingworth, Connecticut, on December 25, 2025, with his beloved wife Bonnie by his side.
Born on November 17, 1941, in Portland, Maine, Edward was the son of Edward J. Wilmot and Ruth B. Wilmot. He pursued his passion for learning by earning a degree in History from Monmouth College, a field that reflected his lifelong love of the past and its stories.
Following college, Edward enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Wright, which functioned as the President's Communication Ship. His time in the Navy was a point of pride and an important chapter in his life of service and dedication.
After completing his military service, Edward built a successful career with RR Donnelley and Sons, where he worked until his retirement. His professional life was marked by diligence and commitment.
Edward had a deep appreciation for both geology and history—interests that shaped much of how he spent his time. Whether exploring natural landscapes or delving into historical texts, he found joy in understanding the world around him. Those who knew him appreciated not only his knowledge but also his kindness and warm demeanor. He was liked by all he met.
He shared 41 devoted years of marriage with Bonnie Holbrook Wilmot, who remained faithfully by his side throughout their life together. In addition to Bonnie, Edward is lovingly remembered by his brother Donald P. Wilmot and sister-in-law Martha; brother-in-law Mark Holbrook and sister-in-law Jeanne; son Thomas J. Stopa, daughter-in-law Lindsay and granddaughter Natalie; daughters Wendy Blume, Melissa Johnson and Amanda Leibowitz; grandsons Timothy Blume, Ryan Johnson and Noah Leibowitz; granddaughters Hannah Leibowitz and Allison Blume. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews Dewey, Diana, Don, Becky, Chris, Jennifer, Rich, Rebecca, Ron and Betsy.
A man of quiet strength and enduring warmth, Edward leaves behind a legacy rooted in love for family, curiosity about the world, and steadfast integrity.
